Last week, I opened Threads and got bombarded. Here was yet another business bro claiming they’ve “discovered” the new way to do marketing.

“Stop making your own content,” they say. “Make AI generate a years’ worth of posts for you in just 5 simple steps! 🤑”

Yes, it’s easier than ever to make content. Just like it’s easier than ever to launch a business, vibe code a website, or build an app. In fact, last month the number of new apps jumped 104% compared to the previous year, breaking a decade-long trend of new apps declining.

But like we’ve seen in the world of fast fashion, quantity does not mean quality. And if the billions of pounds of textiles that end up every year in landfills is an indication, then we know where this story goes:

An internet that’s low quality, low value, low trust… and full of a whole lot more trash 🗑️

We’re already seeing the shift in online behaviours. The backlash against AI-generated content is real and intense. People are craving less picture perfect Instagram grids and more raw & real content. There's even an AI tool that purposely adds typos so people don’t think it was written by AI 🙄

But here’s why this is all important:

The marketing and business bros think that AI-everything is the future of business. What they’ll realize too late is that it’s actually the opposite. Embracing our humanness – our values, voices, and messy, nuanced identities – is the real flex.
